Richelieu Dennis of Essence Ventures Talks Acquisitions Endgame, Investing In Black Founders
Richelieu Dennis is no stranger to big deals. When he and his mother Mary sold Sundial Brands to Unilever in 2018, they walked away with an estimated $850 million fortune. Since then, Dennis has launched a venture capital firm, purchased Essence Magazine from Time Inc., and is on the hunt for another major media acquisition.
He’s been involved in several large-scale businesses and deals, and he’s on a mission to help rising Black business owners get there as well.
“We as Black business owners and operators and culture creators, we’ve just sort of been excluded from playing at scale,” Dennis told Forbes in a recent Forbes Talks episode. “We’re now building businesses to play at scale.”
