Location: Hybrid/Remote (office locations in Philadelphia, New York City, Los Angeles)

Type: Part-Time Employee (20-30 hours per week) Temporary/Seasonal

Job Summary 

The Communications Assistant position provides valuable support to our communications team in various aspects of internal and external communications. The person in this role will draft reports, create press materials, conduct research and other projects as assigned. This role offers a hands-on learning experience in the field of communications, allowing you to gain practical skills and insights while supporting the overall objectives of our organization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Communications team staff to support various account needs, such as:
    • Research relevant, topical news stories and events in which clients and partners can contribute/participate
    • Research media, podcast and speaking opportunities to inform our recommendations for client participation
    • Assist with drafting creative pitches, press releases, media alerts and calendar listings.
    • Keep organized records and lists of various editorial calendars, award opportunities, speaking engagements, and events for to SBM’s clients and staff.
    • Conceptualize creative social media campaigns that tie back to Public Relations and marketing efforts.
    • Assist in planning and preparation for special events.
    • Identifying relevant influencers, tastemakers and leaders for campaigns and events.
    • Assist with production of mailers and influencer gifting.
  • Support various administration tasks, such as:
    • Join select external meetings; create agendas and take/circulate meeting minutes.
    • Scheduling internal and external meetings.
    • Craft monthly reports and clip placements in a timely fashion. Organize and maintain client asset folders
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to handle all situations with tact, professionalism, persuasiveness, and diplomacy.
  • On occasion, work beyond normal business hours, including some weekdays, weekends and holidays to staff client events and to ensure deliverables are met

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms and understanding of their role in PR campaigns
  • Strong ability with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency with Canva and/or Photoshop and other graphics software

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or in pursuit of) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammatical accuracy
  • Prior experience in PR, communications, or related fields through internships or extracurricular activities preferred but not required

  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods.
  • Capability to use a computer and other office equipment effectively.
  • Capacity to communicate verbally and in writing for prolonged periods.
  • Capability to maintain a quiet and distraction-free work environment.
  • Possess the ability to thrive and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced work environment, either remote or in-person.
  • Capacity to maintain proper posture and ergonomic setup to prevent discomfort or injury.
  • Ability to attend virtual meetings and collaborate with team members using video conferencing software.
  • Capability to troubleshoot technical issues independently or with remote support.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and workflow processes related to remote work.
  • Capability to organize and manage work tasks efficiently in a remote setting.
  • Ability to travel for business-related situations, including using all means of transportation e.g. ground, rail and air.
  • Ability to remain onsite for a business-related function for multiple days, which includes the need for overnight stays.
