Rakia Reynolds is a producer turned communications strategist. As founder of Skai Blue Media, a multimedia communications agency with an all-star roster of lifestyle, technology and nonprofit clients such as Ashley Graham, Dell, Landit, Serena Williams and Marley Dias. Noted as an influencer in the creative business industry, Rakia is sought after by companies to provide her expertise in creative development, branding and strategic communications. Rakia has great partnerships with winning brands including DELL Computers who named her one of 25 tastemakers on their “Inspire 100” list and made her the face of ads published in major business magazines and run on the top television networks nationwide.
Rakia’s path to entrepreneurship started with creative ventures, including roles producing shows for MTV, TLC and Discovery Health networks. Ultimately, she chose to create her own company that broke the mold and represented the future of communications in the digital age. As a leader in the communications industry, Skai Blue Media provides business development, marketing, and message strategy to nonprofits, tech start-ups, lifestyle brands, and other businesses.
A self-described “octopus woman,” Rakia currently serves as a founding board member of the Philadelphia Chapter of Women in Film & Technology, The Arts and Business Council of Philadelphia and The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications. She is also the chapter leader of the Young Entrepreneur Council and was presented the Power to the Community award by PECO for being a community trailblazer. In 2014, she was appointed to the United Nations Global Accelerator, a select group of entrepreneurs from around the nation who collectively address real-world issues with creative solutions. Rakia has also developed and implemented the Entrepreneur Residency Program for Visit Philadelphia.
Committed to the development of the leaders of tomorrow, Rakia is also on the advisory board for educational platforms Project Explorer and Tech Girls as a creative advisor. In addition, she is a member of the NationSwell Council, a network of innovators working together to develop impactful solutions for America’s most critical issues. Rakia recently served as a mentor for a cohort of The Stanford University Latino Entrepreneur Leaders Program, where participants have started some the fastest growing businesses in the country.
In addition to being a multimedia mogul, Rakia is a public speaker who was invited to do a TEDx talk in 2015 and has spoken on national stages such as SXSW, Pennsylvania Conference for Women, HubSpot, Georgetown University and New York University. She has also volunteered her time and talents to various non-profits such as STRIVE New York and WE NYC as an event host and/or panelist. Each month as the spokesperson for Serena William’s HSN line she uses her impeccable style and creative strategy to introduce HSN viewers to Signature Statement by Serena Williams.
Never afraid to raise her hand and step way outside the box, Rakia has appeared as a guest editor for Marie Claire magazine, has been featured in Essence, Lucky, Uptown, Bloomberg, Fast Company, USA Today, and Elle. She also regularly contributes her expertise on entrepreneurship and leadership to the pages of Forbes, Inc.com, Huffington Post, Fortune, StartUpCollective.com, Idea Mensch, and Killer Startups. She has shared her knowledge of business and brand development on the stages of TEDx, Tech808 DC, and Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network.
In addition to her full-time work in multimedia communications, Rakia is a wife and mother of three children.
